English Country Dancing
ECD MUSIC JAM

Do you play a musical instrument? Please join us at our next Music Practice - this is a relaxed and informal group of musicians (of varying abilities!) who meet aproximately once a month to play traditional English country dance tunes. The tunes are chosen a couple of weeks in advance to give us time to practice them a little - we meet in each other's houses and play for around three hours or so, with a break for dessert or snacks.
We currently have the following instruments:piano, guitar, violin, flute, clarinet, cello, mandolin, oboe, viola de gamba and recorders of various sizes. There are also opportunities to play for the Sunday night dances in Poway should you wish to do so.
The next music practice will be on Thursday, 10th April, from 7.30pm till 10pm, at Ellen's house.
The tunes we will be playing are:
  • Murray's Passage (for the dance called Emma's Commencement) pdf...
  • Still, Still, Still pdf...
  • Dunham Oaks - in Barnes vol 2, p35
We will also be reviewing previously played tunes, and sight reading from the Barnes books.

Please Email   if you are interested, or would like more information.

The tunes we play can all be found in "English Country Dance Tunes" vols one and two, by Peter Barnes. For information on these books please visit his web site.

The Community band will be playing next for our regular dance on April 13th
